BLACK: A GLOBAL CONSTRUCT, PAN-AFRICANISM & MEDIA

The National Association of Black Journalists of Los Angeles presents an intimate conversation with Phillip Scott, cultural strategist, & founder of the African Diaspora Channel, and Steven Golding, President of the UNIA Jamaica, Professor of Garveyism , and Producer. Together, they will explore how Black identity is constructed across the globe, the legacy and future of Pan-Africanism, and the powerful role of media in shaping narratives of the African Diaspora. Moderated by NABJLA Secretary Nadia "Square Huxtable" Stanley.

Phillip Scott is a pioneering media executive, cultural strategist, and founder of The African Diaspora News Channel (ADNC) — one of the most impactful Black-owned media platforms globally. With an unwavering commitment to truth-telling and elevating the global African voice, Scott has transformed how the diaspora consumes news, reclaims identity, and asserts power in a modern media landscape.

Steven Golding is a professor of Garveyism who chaired the Philosophy of Marcus Garvey studies department at the Hydel University. He has executively produced media content on both radio and television since the early 2000s and is also the founding director of Jamaica’s only authentic African cuisine restaurant Café Africa. He serves as a member of the Jamaican National Council on Reparations as well as the Institute of Jamaica Council and has served as Chairman of the African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica (ACIJ) & the Jamaica Memory Bank. Steven Golding is the son of Jamaica’s eighth Prime Minister (Bruce Golding) and is a graduate of The Johns Hopkins University.
